The Power of Love and Forgiveness

February 22, 2009

Love in it's Purest FormThough I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.  And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.  And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; Love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;  does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;  does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.  For we know in part and we prophesy in part.  But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.
When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.  For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.
And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Love and Forgiveness don’t only resonate with the relationships we have with others, many times it applies to ourselves. No one is perfect and too often we feel that we have failed ourselves with the decisions we’ve made. As a result we become depressed and end up feeling like a failure. Instead, change your perspective, what ever is meant to be will find it’s way and to everything there is a season and a time for everything.  It is important to love and take care of yourself because only then, everything else follows. Love yourself and know that if someone truly loves you, they will forgive you and try again.

When it comes to forgiving others, whether someone has wronged you, betrayed you or hurt you in more ways than one, the answer is never to attempt in getting justice or revenge, rather try to understand the bigger picture behind it. It is very true that what we put out in the universe we get right back,  so although anger is normal, there should come a time when the anger should be dealt with, balanced out and then left behind. I believe our souls yearn for peace and we can create better lives for ourselves if we learn how to respect and understand one another, creating a harmonious balance.

Asking for forgiveness is not always easy. You must be humble and willing to admit that a mistake was made. This is the most important part of growth. In order to change and move forward we must understand that lies will never get us anywhere, we might think that we are helping the situation by holding back the truth but you never know who knows what, better yet, you become a fraud, an unreliable individual who isn’t willing to accept something that should be changed. It’s better to admit, understand why it was done so it will not happen again. When asking for forgiveness we should internalize that in order to be healed, we must be the change we wish to see.

forgiveness & supportive

Be supportive of yourself and others. No one wants or needs to be beat down into feeling inadequate about themselves. Allow growth for change in others while simultaneously working on healing yourself. If this requires space, communicate it with each other and make it happen. If one isn’t supportive of the other, chances are things will fall apart. In time, the truth will always manifest itself. Forgiving does not mean forgetting, condoning, or excusing what happened, its acknowledging and letting go along with the burden of anger and resentment.  Although being disappointed is distressing, once one asks for forgiveness, we should do our best to instill love and peace in others hearts when the time is right.

Keeping the peace with yourself and others is an important factor when forgiving others. While you allow some time for self reflection, be mindful of what you want and need out of life. Remember your worth and be productive and active. Find time to enjoy the little things and be appreciative of all there is to be appreciative of. If you notice there has been a pattern in your partner or loved one and it seems they make the same mistakes repeatedly, forgive them anyway and do what you can to avoid disappointments. Although It’s hard, just realize we cannot change anyone. Remember, what is meant to be will find its way!

When in love, always remember, love is not proud, is not self seeking, does not keep any record of wrongs, rather, it endures everything and most importantly, rejoices in the truth! Love cannot fail.

Peace to all
