I Can’t Hate on Beyonce

March 26, 2009

Beyonce - Halo

I must say, I have been an official hater when it comes to Beyonce’s new album. Although her lyrics are catchy and she’s a great performer, I didn’t really and I still don’t really like some of the generic, “If you like it then you should’ve put a ring on it…, Where Yo Boss At?”  lyrics. But this one song,” Halo”,  is beautiful. The lyrics are moving and although many of us experience the worst of heart breaks, this song creatively makes me envision and re-live a true love with no flaws. Great job to Beyonce for killing the track and to whoever wrote such a beautiful song! Diva is the other video included. I wasn’t a fan of that song either, but the video is dope. Art is art.

Remember those walls I built
Well, baby they’re tumbling down
And they didn’t even put up a fight
They didn’t even make up a sound

I found a way to let you in
But I never really had a doubt
Standing in the light of your halo
I got my angel now

It’s like I’ve been awakened
Every rule I had you breakin’
It’s the risk that I’m takin’
I ain’t never gonna shut you out

Everywhere I’m looking now
I’m surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you’re my saving grace

You’re everything I need and more
It’s written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo
Pray it won’t fade away

I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo
I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo

Hit me like a ray of sun
Burning through my darkest night
You’re the only one that I want
Think I’m addicted to your light

I swore I’d never fall again
But this don’t even feel like falling
Gravity can’t forget
To pull me back to the ground again

Feels like I’ve been awakened
Every rule I had you breakin’
The risk that I’m takin’
I’m never gonna shut you out

Everywhere I’m looking now
I’m surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you’re my saving grace

You’re everything I need and more
It’s written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo
Pray it won’t fade away

I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo
I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo

I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo
I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo
Halo, halo

Everywhere I’m looking now
I’m surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you’re my saving grace

You’re everything I need and more
It’s written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo
Pray it won’t fade away

I like this post. I made an observation of my own. Tell me the “Diva” video is not a compilation of the ideas used to create scenes in “Crazy In Love” & “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)”!!! The 3-chick dance sequence… the car explosion scene… SMH. Nas said it best when he said, “No idea’s original; there’s nothing new under the sun.”

I definitely agree. I like her acting skills in it. Like she was very “diva” like. But as much as I find it “Beyonce Cliche” it gets very entertaining;)

i think the “put a ring on it” song was a little corny. it also makes Beyonce sound desperate, she is basically begging someone to propose to her.

I so wish that someone else had done this song… I dont mean to be hating on Beyonce but she’s just too…perfect..
it almost feels like its not really coming from her heart. The song in itself is very beautiful but I just wish that Beyonce had been more of the unperfect type of artist…

and Diva is clearly an original video, the style of dancing is clearly much different from any of her other dance routines, old or new.
